logo for ARCADA…

Recently I was asked to design a logo for the Abilene Regional Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse. Whew… I was excited about working with a new client, but I knew the name itself would be challenging. I tried about half a dozen different variations on this one.. First attempt, I was trying to use larger and smaller words from the name to bring emphasis to the 3 most important words I thought people would need to see first. That didn’t really work out on this one.. there was just too much going on, so I decided to keep it simple and move away from the wordmark logo idea. I was afraid the final version was a bit childish looking, but the client believed it would work well for them, and they loved the colors.

latest t-shirt design…

By scott  //  Designs, T-shirt designs  //  1 Comment

It’s amazing how much work I’m willing to do for a good laugh. This time it was for a friend’s 30th birthday party. I drew this design working from a photo taken by the subject himself. He thought it would be a good idea to take a picture of himself half-shaven with a handle-bar mustache. Lesson learned.

Great tip… for Camera Raw.

By scott  //  Tutorials  //  No Comments

One of my favorite things about working in Camera Raw is the ability to tweak my exposure. Lately I’ve been reading and testing out various lighting techniques on Strobist.com. Since I’m no Joe McNally, I almost always have to tweak my exposures. This tip is super simple, but it reaps great rewards. Step one, of course, is to open an image in Camera Raw. This will work when opening an image that was shot in RAW, or a jpg you’d like to edit in Camera Raw (a new feature in CS3!) As you are moving the Exposure slider, try holding down the Option key (Alt on PC) to reveal your image in a clipping display. It’s a simplified version of your image that will allow you to increase/decrease exposure until you just start to see some absolute white in your clipping display. This tip also works on the Recovery slider, and the Blacks slider as well. The Blacks slider will reveal the reverse clipping display. Slide this one till you just start to see some black in your clipping display. Hope this helps!

HSU football seniors 2009

By scott  //  Photography stuff  //  No Comments

The 2009 seniors of the Hardin-Simmons football team. They chose the location and props. I just showed up and took the photo. Turned out to be perfect weather for an outdoor group shot (except the wind blew over my light stand with flash and broke my wireless trigger!). They decided to pay tribute to their teammate who died last year.
